For Adults, children needn't apply.... March 17, 2010 Bead Diva (Galena, IL United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The Black Label Barbies' are specifically for all of us who grew up before Barbie dolls were even around and never found a good enough reason to purchase them for our grown up selves. Mattel has gone so far as to say so on the box: "for the adult collector". These stunning dolls are Mattel"s "Ode to Fashion" and support the efforts of the Council of Fashion Designers of America"s scholarships. The dolls are beautiful and salute the little black dress and all of the accessories that make it the fashion statement it is. Thanks to Mattel, now I can "play" Barbie too.
Beauty in many colors April 10, 2010 Damselfly 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a nice Doll to gaze at. I understand that you can buy clothes for her, made just for her. When I saw a few variations of these new Fashion Dolls, I remember having a mixed reaction: The first thing was, how detached from the Barbie family they seemed. The second thing was, they are like statues as far as body wise. They are forever frozen in these vogue poses. If a teen girl wants to play with this Barbie doll, she will find herself limited. This doll is beautiful, and after many attempts in the past, looks more naturally African American than the Barbies of several years ago. These collectables are just perfect to stand on display in their Black Designer dresses. I understand all her outfits are Black. Not at all for a girl under 13. All 12 dolls are "perfect"looking. In a era of thin-is-in I would have liked to see some size variation as well. I have ten more Dolls to collect. The main appeal that they may have to the adult collector is their facial variation, and they can certainly hold a pose.
I own it May 30, 2010 L. Bolton (New York, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Most of the confusion about this doll would be adverted if people would just read the box. Had they done so they would have realized that this was not meant for small children. These are probably the same parents who take their kids to a R rated film then complain about the content.
The barbie is part of a couture collection which has fashions just like this one. There are barbies on the shelves now that show more skin (and with bigger breasts btw) and yet no one complains about those. If you don't like it, don't buy it. I think she is beautiful and the dress is nice. I collect barbies of color (I am black) and I think she is absolutely fabulous. I don't understand the hate for a twelve inch piece of sculptured plastic. It is as if people's insecurities come out when they see something (no matter what it is) that is a threat to how they feel about their exterior.
A beautiful face, a wonderful collector doll. May 30, 2010 Alison Rasmussen (San Diego, CA) Let's make sure we first acknowledge that this doll is a Barbie Collector doll, with the age grade "For the adult collector," as clearly marked on the product packaging.
That being said, this gorgeous face and sexy evening wear on a slim Model Muse body is a lovely addition to the couture, mix-n-match Barbie Basics line. The thing I love best about this line is the attempt Mattel has (finally) made at an ethnically diverse line of dolls. I'm so glad to see it.
As far as the stink that this particular doll has made with her "bustiness," well, she's a slim Model Muse doll, much smaller than Vintage Barbie or the Superstar Barbie bodies. Her dress is rather low cut, as is current celebrity style, and what you see on television. And that's totally fine, as she is designed for the adult collector. I find her delightful, and a lovely addition to any adult's collection.
Beautiful in every way! August 16, 2010 WickedQueen (MN) I tried twice to order this doll directly from Mattel and twice I received a doll with the wrong Mormon style dress! Seems some prude in the warehouse took it upon themselves to re-dress Model 10 in a more Victorian fashion. Thank god for Amazon.com! This doll is beautiful, fun if not a bit risque (hence the fun!), and totally for the adult collector. Anyone lamenting that she looks like a streetwalker has some pretty conservative streetwalkers in their neighborhood. The one's in mine should look half as pristine!
